Report
on observing of global hand washing week (12th – 17th
October, 2015)
Since last year our school has been
observing global hand washing week. The global hand washing week is on 15th
October every year. It is said that every year children around the world dies
of preventable disease like diarrhea and pneumonia in thousands hundred. And
the reason is said to be lack of hand hygiene and excess to clean water. Kurtoed
has got villages that still practices primitive hygiene though we have excess
to clean water.
So the move was to advocate the importance of
washing hand with soap and running water. It would prevent any common or fatal
diseases. It will also prevent children getting sick often and missing the
classes.
This year we observed the global hand
washing week from 12th to 17th October as it was
convenient and did not disturbed any of our usual classes. The theme this year
was “Raise a hand for hygiene”.
Following were the activities that we carried
out from 12th Monday to 17th Saturday, 2015.
There were speeches by class VI from
Monday to Saturday related to hand hygiene.
On Monday we had a role play showing a
dirty hand. It showed, if we don’t wash hand, our hand would be covered by germs
that will cause various diseases. We also had class-wise poster display related
to hand hygiene. All the class had displayed their beautiful poster in front of
their classroom. We also displayed banners having slogans of hand hygiene.
On Tuesday, we had poster competition
for the entire student. The upper primary drew the picture of when should we
wash our hand and the lower primary drew the pictures of effective steps to
wash hand. We had the program, after the school hour.
On Wednesday we again had a role play
about the clean hand. The role play showed the simple way to prevent getting
illness: the simple way to not to get sick is by washing hand with soap and
running water. We too had essay writing for the upper primary students. They
wrote on the importance of washing hand with soap and running water.
Thursday was the global hand washing
day. We had parents, ECCDs children, and staff from health, the geog and RNR Centre.
We gave prizes for all the competition. The health personnel and a parent too
shared the importance of hand washing to our children. We also had an official
inaugural of, steps to wash hand picture painted on the wall. We all washed
hand from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Then we divided into two groups and visited
shops, the farm house in the geog Centre to advocate and make culture of
washing hand whenever necessary. Our children were served refreshment by the
geog official, Wangchuk Centennial National Park, Farm shop executive sale
person and RNR Centre official.
On Friday we had a role play by Mr.
Tashi Wangchuk and his class V students. They showed us that we should wash our
hand before and after eating food, after playing or playing with pet animal,
after using toilet, and after our work.
Saturday was the last day for global
hand washing week. On the last day the health incharge shared his review and
reflection on the global hand washing week. He thanked all the class teacher
and students for writing essays, making posters, banners and for the role plays.
He thanked English teachers for assessing the essay.
Observing of global hand washing week was
successful with the help, support and cooperation of all the stake holders.
